Bonjour tout le monde! We have a very busy month coming up! Some quick homework reminders first:
- The new spelling lesson has gone home and is due Tuesday as usual. What's NOT usual, however, is that this lesson is a review! It contains a long word list, made up of words from previous lessons which we have already practiced. For the spelling test Tuesday, I will randomly pick 25 words from the list! So if there's anything on the list that you found challenging last time, it's a good idea to pay special attention to it, to be ready for anything!

Here is what is coming up this month at school:
As you can see, there is LOADS going on, and lots to keep track of! If you are planning to be away before the end of the term, don’t forget to let the office and your teachers know in advance!
Merci, tout le monde, and don’t hesitate to direct any questions my way!
- New students! We are delighted to receive Mona and Victoria (grade 4) who will be transferring into our class on Monday! See the updated class list on the downloads page!
- Our class has received a hamper box for families in need! Over the next couple of weeks, you can bring in a non-perishable food item or new, unwrapped toy to help someone in need!
- Book Fair! Monday-Wednesday next week, the library will be hosting a book fair! Purchases can be made before and after school on those three days!
- Winter Market! Time will be given at school for students to make the products they will be selling at the winter market. If they have the materials they need, they can bring them to school to start as early as Mon. Dec. 4! Reminder that we are hoping for as much of this project to be done at school as possible. Thanks so much for your support at home!
- Fri. Dec. 15: Skating! Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to drive! Please let us know if you can help! Mme Coons should be getting in touch soon with drivers to confirm availability. (Don’t forget a helmet for the ice!)
- Fri. Dec. 15: Report cards home! (Note that for the first time, according to our new reporting order, report cards will be going home by email, rather than on paper. Don't forget to check your inbox on this date!)
- Mon. Dec. 18: Winter Coffeehouse, 1:00-2:00pm!
- Students who have been working on winter-themed stories in Writer’s Workshop will be invited to share them with the class, while we enjoy some hot chocolate and maybe a few treats! Stories in progress should be completed by this date. (If anyone needs or wants to work on their stories from home, they can do so from any computer with internet access. Just go to http://docs.google.com and login with your full @sd61learn.ca email address and password!) Parents are invited to come and listen. Students are asked to bring a non-breakable mug from home if possible to reduce waste. If your child cannot have hot chocolate, or has dietary restrictions for treats, please let me know ASAP and alternatives will be provided! If you would like to send in a treat for the class to enjoy during the Coffeehouse, that would be welcome! Please use this sign-up sheet to check on what we have and need!
- Tues. Dec. 19: Winter Performance! There will be a winter concert for parents to watch this afternoon! Keep an eye out for info from the office or Ms. Poulin (our music teacher) for more info! There will also be a rehearsal on Monday, and a second performance for the school to watch on Wednesday morning. We're looking forward to it!
- Wed. Dec. 20: Film – Because of Winn-Dixie
- To conclude our novel study, we will be watching the film “Because of Winn-Dixie.” This movie is rated PG for some mature topics (parental abandonment, alcohol addiction) explored in a child-friendly manner, which we have already discussed while reading the book. If you do not want your child to view this film, please let me know, and other arrangements will be made!
- Thurs. Dec. 21: Market Day!
- Our Winter Market will be taking place in the gym all morning! All items for sale need to be finished BEFORE this date! Students will also need to complete their worksheet calculating their revenue, expenses, and profits, so don't forget to help them keep careful track of how much they spent!
- Fri. Dec. 22: Last day before the break! We will have a schoolwide sing-along in the gym in the afternoon!
- Note the spirit days for the last week of school: Rockin’ Red Monday, Feelin’ Festive & Fancy Tuesday, Ever Green Wednesday, Holiday Headwear Thursday, and Comfy & Cozy Friday! Feel free to dress up for any or all of our celebratory spirit days!
As you can see, there is LOADS going on, and lots to keep track of! If you are planning to be away before the end of the term, don’t forget to let the office and your teachers know in advance!
Merci, tout le monde, and don’t hesitate to direct any questions my way!
